Solo SaaS Founder: Breaking Even After 5 Weeks Live

5 minutes a day learn french with my app

I just broke even on my solo SaaS, just under 5 weeks after it went live! Happy days, I was starting to get worried this was a very expensive hobby!

Building in Public: Moving to Paris and Launching Mimique

Almost 6 weeks ago I moved to Paris. Not long after, I soft launched Mimique to founding members and testers, then went public a week later, and set myself a 30 day challenge: use my own French pronunciation app daily and see if 5 minutes a day actually improves my speaking confidence. Day 11 today, and I’ve definitely seen progress.

SaaS Churn and AI Running Costs: What’s Working, What Isn’t

A handful of people are paying, mostly founding members on their half price reward, and the feedback’s been amazing. But plenty of free users sign up, give great feedback, and drop off before day seven. That’s what I’m trying to figure out now, alongside working out what AI running costs make sustainable for one person building alone.

Talking to Camera as an Introverted Founder (TikTok and Instagram)

I’ve also started talking to camera for the first time, on TikTok and a bit on Instagram, showing French difficulties and how the app helps. Bigger deal than it sounds for someone who hides behind a keyboard, dislikes their own voice, and gets embarrassed about their French. People seem to like it, and a growing audience is what gets more sign ups.

Still working on the app daily, watching PostHog, and I’ve started blogging too.

Solo Founder Life: Business or Expensive Hobby?

Not sure yet if this becomes a real business or stays an expensive, time consuming hobby. Following along here as I find out.

Business advice, marketing advice, SaaS management, AI costing advice — I’d welcome all of it right now.
